Use of reservoirs and amrit sarovars for inland fisheries in Konkan

The Government of India in Union Budget 2026-27 has announced the development of fisheries and aquaculture by undertaking integrated development of 500 reservoirs and Amrit Sarovars in the country including the Konkan region of Maharashtra. As reported by Government of Maharashtra, 34 reservoirs including the Konkan region has been selected in the state for integrated development. Further, district wise fish value chain approved in Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg district under PMMSY are as under: Sl. No. District Cold Chain Units Approved under PMMSY (i) (ii) (iii) 1. Raigad 40 2. Ratnagiri 62 3. Sindhudurg 96 Total 198 (c) The Department of Fisheries (DoF), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAH&D), Government of India (GoI) with the objective of enhancing fisher’s income in the country is promoting cooperatives and Fish Farmer Producer Organization (FFPOs). There are 12 numbers of FFPOs functioning in the Konkan region of the State. Additionally, the Department of Fisheries is actively promoting startups and women-led groups for the development of the fisheries and fishery related activities in the country including the Konkan region of Maharashtra. For these, various project under PMMSY has been approved and also been actively monitored for implementation of such projects. (d) The Department of Fisheries, Government of India in coordination with States and UTs has formulated plan of action with milestones and deliverables for implementation of Budget Announcement in a time bound manner. This information was given by Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh in the Rajya Sabha in response to a question asked.
