Regional Event cum Workshop scheduled to be held on 14th March 2026 at Kalaivanar Arangam, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Posted On: 13 MAR 2026 8:47AM by PIB Delhi The Regional Event cum Workshop of 2026, being organized under the Tele-Law initiative of Designing Innovative solutions for Holistic Access to Justice (DISHA), a Central Sector Scheme being implemented by Department of Justice under the Access to Justice division, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India. The Workshop is set to take place on 14th March 2026 from 12:00 noon onwards at the, Kalaivanar Arangam, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The workshop is being convened as part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen access to Justice through technology-enabled legal services and to foster informed deliberations among key stakeholders. The event will commence with the mass singing of National Song of India, &ldquo;Vande Mataram&rdquo; to mark 150 years of the National Song which is to celebrate its spirit & unique role in the history of India. During the programme, the progress of the DISHA Scheme in Tamil Nadu will be highlighted, including the implementation and outreach of the Tele-Law services across the State. The session will also feature live interactions with Tele-Law stakeholders, including Panel Lawyers, Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs), and beneficiaries, providing insights into how technology-enabled legal services are facilitating access to justice at the grassroots level. The workshop will also showcase outreach activities under Legal Literacy and Legal Awareness, with a special focus on initiatives undertaken in collaboration with Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry, along with interaction with faculty members. Another segment will highlight the Pro Bono initiatives undertaken by Law Colleges across Tamil Nadu, featuring experience-sharing by faculty members and students engaged in community service. As part of the programme, 10 e-books on Customary Laws of the North Eastern Region of India will be formally launched, contributing to the documentation and dissemination of knowledge on indigenous legal traditions and customary practices. The event will be graced by the august presence of Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, Shri. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Hon’ble Chief Justice of Madras High Court, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari. Around 800 participants will attend the event physically, including, Madras High Court Officials from High Court Registry, Officials from State Legal Services Authority Tamil Nadu, Advocates from the Bar Associations in Chennai, Government Counsels, Village-Level Entrepreneurs (VLE) from Common Service Centers (CSC), Tele-Law Panel Lawyers, Faculty, and Law students from Saveetha School of Law, SASTRA Deemed to be University, KMC College of Law, Tamil Nadu National Law University, School of Law, St. Joseph University, Director and faculty members from Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry, Director/Registrars/ as well as senior officials from both Central and State administrations. In addition, several citizens and stakeholders of the Department of Justice will join the event through virtual mode. The Regional Workshop on Tele-Law Programme , organized under the DISHA Scheme of the Department of Justice, is part of the Government of India’s broader effort to strengthen access to justice through awareness, capacity-building, and technology-enabled service delivery. Such regional workshops are being conducted across the country to engage State administrations and stakeholders, review implementation progress, and further strengthen last-mile Justice delivery mechanisms.
