CSIR-NIScPR and INSA Organised Workshop on ‘Creative Ways of Communicating Science’ to Commemorate National Science Day 2026

Posted On: 01 MAR 2026 3:50PM by PIB Delhi As part of the National Science Day Celebration 2026, a Capacity Building Workshop on &ldquo;Creative Ways of Communicating Science&rdquo; was organised at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The workshop was jointly organised by CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) and Indian National Science Academy (INSA). The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Shekhar C. Mande, President, INSA, who emphasized the importance of strengthening science communication to bridge the gap between research and society and promote inclusive scientific growth. In her welcome address, Dr. Geetha Vani Rayasam, Director, CSIR-NIScPR, highlighted the institute’s role in science communication and policy research and underscored the need for creative and multilingual approaches to make scientific knowledge more accessible and impactful. The technical sessions featured eminent speakers who deliberated on various dimensions of science communication. Prof. Sharmistha Banerjee, University of Hyderabad, emphasized the importance of storytelling and audience-centric communication to address the science communication gap. Dr. H. S. Sudhira, Gubbi Labs, spoke on popular science writing and the use of Artificial Intelligence tools to simplify complex scientific concepts. Dr. Manish Mohan Gore, Senior Scientist, CSIR-NIScPR, elaborated on the process and media formats of science communication, highlighting CSIR-NIScPR’s contributions through popular science magazines, books, research journals, and regional outreach initiatives. Dr. Paramananda Barman, Senior Scientist, CSIR-NIScPR, discussed the role of social media and digital platforms in enhancing public engagement with science. A talk on Dos and Don’ts in Science Communication was delivered by Dr. Meher Wan, CSIR-NIScPR, providing practical insights and engaging participants in reflective learning. A pre-workshop survey and interactive session were also conducted to assess participants’ perspectives and expectations. Around 150 students from various colleges of Delhi University and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) actively participated in the workshop, reflecting strong academic engagement and interest in strengthening science communication skills.
