India past 300 GW of non-fossil capacity, with 200 more to fund
At the Mumbai roadshow for November's Bharat Renewable Energy Summit, the Minister put non-fossil capacity at about 302 GW and the cost of reaching 500 GW by 2030 at over ₹30 lakh crore.
What happened
- Pralhad Joshi addressed the Mumbai roadshow for BRESE 2026, to be held 2-5 November 2026.
- India's installed non-fossil capacity has crossed 300 GW, at about 302-303 GW.
- It rose from 80.3 GW to 300.5 GW in twelve years — a 275 per cent increase.
- More than 17 GW was added in the first four months of FY 2026-27, including 14.33 GW of solar.
- The 500 GW target for 2030 needs over ₹30 lakh crore in five years.

Way-forward
Make state pipelines the unit of investment — Maharashtra is targeting 65 GW by 2030 — so that global capital meets projects rather than intentions.

India's renewable problem has moved downstream: panels and turbines are cheap and available, while long-tenor rupee finance and evacuation capacity are not.
