A 35-acre garbage mountain becomes 22 acres of forest
Raichur processed 62,252 tonnes of legacy waste at the Yakalaspura dumpsite and reclaimed nearly 22 acres of urban land, now carrying a Miyawaki forest — bioremediation as a land-recovery instrument.
What happened
- Raichur remediated the 35-acre Yakalaspura dumpsite under SBM-Urban 2.0.
- About 62,252 metric tonnes of legacy waste were scientifically processed.
- Nearly 22 acres of urban land have been reclaimed.
- The restored site now supports a Miyawaki forest.
- The dumpsite had generated leachate, foul odour and pollution for nearby communities.
