300 GW clean: India crosses 60% of its 2030 target
Non-fossil installed capacity reached 300.50 GW on 31 July — more than 54 per cent of all generating capacity — with solar at 164.59 GW, up from 2.8 GW in 2014, and a record 55.29 GW added in a single year.
What happened
- India crossed 300.50 GW of non-fossil installed capacity as on 31 July 2026.
- That is over 60 per cent of the 500 GW by 2030 target and over 54 per cent of total capacity.
- Solar 164.59 GW, wind 58.14 GW, hydro 57.24 GW, bio-power 11.75 GW, nuclear 8.78 GW.
- A record 55.29 GW was added in 2025-26, including 44.6 GW of solar.
- ALMM-enlisted solar module capacity has crossed 200 GW, from 2.3 GW in 2014.

What it is NOT: This is installed capacity, not generation — the non-fossil share of capacity (over 54 per cent) is much higher than the non-fossil share of electricity actually generated, because solar and wind run at lower capacity utilisation than coal.

Problematisation
