The Army Chief launched indigenously developed Xtreme Weather Grade diesel — jointly built by the Indian Army and oil marketing companies — which stays usable down to minus 42 degrees Celsius, ending the improvised measures troops used to keep vehicles running in Himalayan winters.
What happened
- The Chief of the Army Staff launched indigenous Xtreme Weather Grade (XWG) Diesel.
- It was developed jointly by the Indian Army and Oil Marketing Companies.
- It stays effective down to minus 42 degrees Celsius, where conventional diesel thickens and clogs filters.
- It is BS-VI and IS 1460:2025 compliant and needs no engine modification or re-homologation.
