What happened
- SVEP had supported 4.32 lakh rural enterprises by 30 June 2026.
- About 86% of entrepreneurs are from SC, ST, Minority and OBC communities.
- It is a 2016 sub-scheme of DAY-NRLM for non-farm rural enterprises.

- The aim is local employment, poverty reduction and rural economic development.
For Prelims
- SVEP: The Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (2016), a sub-scheme of DAY-NRLM for non-farm rural enterprises.
- Reach: 4.32 lakh enterprises by June 2026; ~86% run by SC/ST/Minority/OBC entrepreneurs.
- Delivery: Through SHGs, CRP-EPs (Community Resource Persons – Enterprise Promotion) and bank linkages.
- Convergence: With the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana for enterprise credit.
- DAY-NRLM: The Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission, the SHG-based rural-livelihoods programme.
- Context: India has the world's third-largest start-up ecosystem, mostly urban — SVEP takes it rural.
For UPSC: A rural-livelihoods and inclusive-growth item. Use it for the SHG-led (DAY-NRLM) architecture, rural non-farm employment, financial inclusion via Mudra, and the social inclusion of SC/ST/OBC/minority entrepreneurs.
What it is NOT: This is a rural non-farm enterprise-promotion sub-scheme under DAY-NRLM — not a wage-employment guarantee programme like MGNREGA, and not the urban start-up ecosystem.
