India electrifies 99.6% of its broad-gauge rail — and slashes diesel use on the way to net-zero
Indian Railways has electrified about 99.6% of its broad-gauge network — second only to Switzerland — cutting traction diesel use from 293 crore litres in 2015-16 to 108 crore litres in 2024-25, saving foreign exchange and emissions as it targets net-zero carbon by 2030.
