Navy to host Operation Southern Readiness 26-2 with the Combined Maritime Forces at Kochi

The Indian Navy will host Operation Southern Readiness 26-2 at the Southern Naval Command, Kochi (20-23 July) — a four-day multinational maritime-security training engagement with the Combined Maritime Forces, run under the India-led Combined Task Force 154, reinforcing regional capacity-building and collective maritime security.

What happened

For Prelims

For UPSC: A maritime-security-cooperation example — India hosting/ leading multinational training under the CMF, showcasing its role as a net security provider in the Indian Ocean. Use it for maritime domain awareness, the CMF/CTF-154 architecture, counter-narcotics and asymmetric threats, and the SAGAR/MAHASAGAR maritime vision.
What it is NOT: This is a training and capacity-building engagement (exercises and instruction), not a combat operation or a treaty alliance. The CMF is a flexible coalition, and India's participation is as a partner/leader of the training task force, not a binding military bloc.
