Cow dung to Compressed Bio-Gas: MCD-NDDB tie-up aims to keep dung out of the Yamuna
In the presence of Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the National Dairy Development Board signed an MoU to set up Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants that convert cow dung into clean fuel — part of the drive to stop dung entering the Yamuna, raise livestock-farmers' income and boost organic farming.
What happened
- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) signed an MoU to set up Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants from cow dung.
- It was signed in the presence of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah.
- The aim is to ensure cow dung no longer enters the Yamuna — cleaning the river and offering a model for other cities.
- Benefits: higher livestock-farmer income, cleanliness, CBG fuel and a boost to organic farming via bio-slurry.

What it is NOT: This is an MoU to set up CBG plants (an enabling agreement), not a completed plant or a river-cleaning guarantee. The 'no dirty water by December 2028' figure is a stated target, and cow-dung diversion is one part of a wider Yamuna clean-up effort.
