India's first cooperative university, 'Tribhuvan' Sahkari, holds its maiden convocation

The 'Tribhuvan' Sahkari University at Anand, Gujarat — set up to professionalise the cooperative sector under the Ministry of Cooperation's 'Sahakar Se Samriddhi' vision — held its first convocation, conferring graduate and PhD degrees, as the sector prepares to need over 17 lakh trained youth in coming years.

What happened

For Prelims

For UPSC: A polity-and-governance example on the cooperative sector — a dedicated university and the Ministry of Cooperation's push to professionalise a movement central to rural livelihoods. Use it for cooperative governance (PACS, the 'Anand pattern'), the 97th Amendment and Part IX-B, and skilling/human-resource development for cooperatives.
What it is NOT: This is the first convocation of an established university (a milestone event), not the creation of a new ministry or law. 'Cooperative societies' remains largely a State subject; the Ministry of Cooperation (2021) provides a central framework, not a takeover of state powers.
