A decade of CapaCITIES: building a blueprint for low-carbon, climate-resilient Indian cities

An event marking ten years of the CapaCITIES programme — organised by ICLEI South Asia and the National Institute of Urban Affairs — launched three knowledge products and showcased how the Swiss-funded initiative has equipped Indian cities to mainstream low-carbon, climate-resilient development into urban governance, in line with India's 2070 net-zero goal.

What happened

For Prelims

For UPSC: A useful environment-and-urban-governance example — building sub-national/city capacity for climate action, and how international cooperation (Swiss-funded) plus institutions (NIUA, ICLEI) support India's 2070 net-zero path. Use it for urban climate resilience, the mitigation-adaptation frame, and the role of cities in national climate commitments.
What it is NOT: This is a commemorative event and knowledge-product launch marking an existing programme's decade, not a new national mission or a binding commitment. CapaCITIES is a capacity-building project (Swiss-funded), not a government scheme.
