What happened
- The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, with the Ministries of Heavy Industries and Road Transport and Highways, held a press conference on the E20 ethanol-blended petrol programme.
- Experts said E20 (petrol with 20% ethanol) is a clean, high-performance fuel adopted through a measured, scientifically driven, step-by-step process.
- They reassured owners of older vehicles that E20 poses no cause for concern, noting the auto industry's rigorous independent testing and certification.
- Maruti Suzuki gave a 'statement of confidence' on E20, saying no issues were found across over 1.5 crore older vehicles serviced.
