The Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Rajnath Singh, granted Acceptance of Necessity to acquisition proposals worth roughly ₹52,000 crore — anti-drone and air-defence systems, anti-tank missiles and kamikaze drones for the Army, naval mines and unmanned systems for the Navy, and a high-altitude pseudo-satellite for the Air Force.
What happened
- The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), the Ministry of Defence's apex body for capital procurement, chaired by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, accorded Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to acquisition proposals worth about ₹52,000 crore on 3 July 2026.
- For the Indian Army, AoN covered the anti-UAV electronic-warfare system 'AKASH TARANG', Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (MPATGM), the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM), the Very Short Range Air Defence System (V-SHORADS), an Active Protection System for tanks and a Jet-Based Kamikaze Drone System.
- For the Indian Navy, it cleared the Multi Influence Ground Mine (MIGM), the Naval Shipborne Unmanned Aerial System (NSUAS) and a Land Based Testing Facility (LBTF) for electric propulsion systems.
- For the Indian Air Force, it approved a Fixed-Wing Based High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (FW-HAPS) for persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, telecommunication and remote sensing.
- AoN is the first, in-principle step of the Defence Acquisition Procedure; the proposals now enter the procurement pipeline, with the emphasis on indigenous manufacture under Atmanirbhar Bharat.

- Buy (Indian-IDDM): The most-preferred DAP category — 'Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured' — favouring domestic content and design.
- Don't confuse: The DAC (chaired by the Defence Minister) sets policy and approves acquisitions; the Defence Procurement Board and Service HQs handle execution. AoN ₹52,000 crore is a sanctioned ceiling, not actual spending.
