India gets a common yardstick for how 'ready' a technology really is
The Principal Scientific Adviser's office launched the 'TRL Compass' — a national platform that standardises Technology Readiness Level assessments, so public R&D funding can judge how close an innovation is to real-world deployment.
What happened
- The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (OPSA), with the Data Security Council of India (DSCI), launched the TRL Compass Platform to standardise Technology Readiness Level (TRL) assessments across sectors.
- It was launched under PSA Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood and adapts the globally accepted nine-level TRL scale to India's research and innovation ecosystem.
- The platform provides a common national standard for evaluating projects seeking public funding.
- It will support key initiatives such as the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) and the Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund, with sector-specific annexures (e.g. Healthcare & Pharma, Software).
