India switches on a stack of digital-health tools — led by a reborn Aarogya Setu

Health Minister Nadda launched a bundle of digital-health initiatives — Aarogya Setu 2.0, the Unified Health Interface, a national Drug Registry, a claims exchange and Indian health-data standards — deepening India's Digital Public Infrastructure for health.

What happened

For Prelims

For UPSC: India launched a digital-health stack — Aarogya Setu 2.0, the Unified Health Interface, a Drug Registry, NHCX and data standards (LOINC/BHTS) — deepening health DPI. Anchor the ABDM and ABHA, the UHI (open interoperable network, 'UPI of health'), FHIR/LOINC interoperability, the NHCX claims exchange, and NHA/NRCeS.
What it is NOT: The ABDM/health DPI (records, UHI, standards) is distinct from AB PM-JAY (the insurance scheme). The Unified Health Interface is an open network — not a single app; Aarogya Setu 2.0 is one PHR app built on ABHA within that ecosystem.

Syllabus: GS2.13 · GS3.13 · Linkage L1

Anchor
Digital public infrastructure for health — interoperable, consent-based tools to make care accessible, portable and efficient.
Substantiation (data)
Launched Aarogya Setu 2.0, UHI, Drug Registry, NHCX, e-Sushrut, and data standards (CLCI/LOINC, BHTS) under NHA/NRCeS.
Exemplification
Cite ABDM/ABHA, the UHI (open network), NHCX and FHIR/LOINC standards as building blocks of interoperable health DPI.
Problematisation
Health-data privacy and consent, the digital divide, private-provider onboarding and interoperability adoption are challenges.
Way-forward
Strengthen consent/data protection, drive interoperability and provider onboarding, expand multilingual access, and integrate insurance (NHCX).
Position
Government stance: an open, interoperable digital-health ecosystem expands access and efficiency while keeping citizens in control of their data.
Deploys into: Health DPI & e-governance (ABDM/ABHA/UHI/NHCX) · interoperability standards (FHIR/LOINC) · drug safety registry · digital inclusion (GS2.13 health & service delivery, GS3.13 IT & digital infrastructure).
