India's anaemia fight gets a reboot — from '6x6x6' to '7x7x7'

The government will launch the Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, expanding its strategy from a 6x6x6 to a 7x7x7 framework — adding low-birth-weight babies as a new target group, an 'eating right' intervention, and digital tracking, and moving from a Test-Treat-Talk to a Test-Treat-Talk-Track approach.

What happened

• Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda will release the Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) Abhiyaan – Operational Guidelines during the 16th meeting of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFW) on 29 June 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan.
• It marks the programme's transition from Anemia Mukt Bharat to a more comprehensive, people-centric and technology-enabled 'Abhiyaan'.
• The guidelines expand the 6x6x6 strategy into a 7x7x7 framework — adding a seventh beneficiary group: low-birth-weight (LBW) babies aged 0–6 months.
• A seventh intervention — 'Eating Right' (iron-rich, diversified diets as a daily habit) — and a seventh institutional mechanism — strengthened, digitally tracked M&E — are introduced.
• The approach shifts from the T3 (Test, Treat, Talk) to a T4 (Test, Treat, Talk, Track) approach, with community participation through 'Jan Chetna'.
