On MSME Day, the government pitches small enterprises as the engine of 'Viksit Bharat'

At International MSME Day 2026, Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan launched multilingual, voice-enabled MSME portals and released books on the PM Vishwakarma scheme and the Self-Reliant India Fund — framing MSMEs as the backbone of India's journey to a developed economy by 2047.

What happened

For Prelims

For UPSC: On International MSME Day, the government launched multilingual MSME portals and spotlighted MSMEs as the engine of Viksit Bharat @2047. Anchor the MSMED Act 2006 and revised composite (investment+turnover) classification, Udyam registration/Udyam Assist, PM Vishwakarma, the SRI Fund-of-Funds, KVIC, and MSMEs' share of GDP/exports/employment.
What it is NOT: MSMEs are classified on composite investment AND turnover criteria (revised 2020/2025) — not turnover alone. International MSME Day (27 June, a UN observance) is distinct from India's 'Udyami Bharat' branding, and these are portal/awareness launches, not a new MSME law.
