The Indian Coast Guard commissioned ICGS Akshay — a new-generation Fast Patrol Vessel designed and built by Goa Shipyard — boosting maritime law enforcement, coastal security and search-and-rescue, and underscoring self-reliant warship-building.
What happened
- The Indian Coast Guard (Bharatiya Tatrakshak) commissioned ICGS Akshay, a new-generation Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), at Goa Shipyard Limited, Goa, on 27 June 2026.
- Named 'Akshay' (meaning 'Indestructible'), the vessel embodies the Coast Guard's commitment to safeguarding India's maritime interests and ensuring safe, secure and clean seas.
- It is equipped for a wide range of operations — maritime law enforcement, coastal security, search and rescue, marine environmental protection and assistance to mariners in distress.
- It was designed and constructed indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited (a defence PSU), marking a milestone in force modernisation and self-reliant warship-building.
- The ship was commissioned by Smt. Parama Sen, Additional Secretary (Personnel), Department of Expenditure, with senior Coast Guard officers present.
