What happened
- PM Modi commissioned three indigenously designed and built naval ships — INS Dunagiri (an advanced stealth frigate), INS Sanshodhak (a large survey vessel) and INS Agray (an anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft) — at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata.
- All three were designed by the Navy's Warship Design Bureau and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, with 200+ MSMEs and over 75% indigenous content.
- The PM noted 21 June is also World Hydrography Day, fitting for commissioning India's advanced hydrographic survey vessel INS Sanshodhak.
- He said annual defence production rose from ~Rs 40,000 crore (2014) to nearly Rs 1.8 lakh crore, with 40+ warships/submarines inducted recently and 45 major naval platforms under construction.
- He cited the Rs 70,000 crore shipbuilding incentive package and Sagarmala, and said West Bengal is poised to be a hub for India's Blue Economy.
