Ayush sets a Guinness World Record with 4.35 lakh viewers on a live yoga stream ahead of Yoga Day

A global online session on the Ministry of Ayush's YouTube channel drew 4,35,831 verified viewers — nearly doubling the 2024 record — as the curtain-raiser to International Day of Yoga 2026 and the 'Yoga 365' push.

What happened

For Prelims

For UPSC: Ayush set a Guinness World Record (4,35,831 viewers, beating the 2024 mark of 2,46,252) on a live yoga stream ahead of IDY 2026. Anchor IDY's origin (UNGA Res 69/131, 11 Dec 2014, India's proposal, 175 co-sponsors, first 2015), the Common Yoga Protocol, the Ministry of Ayush and 'Yoga 365', yoga as soft power and UNESCO ICH (2016), and the WHO traditional-medicine centre (Jamnagar).
What it is NOT: This 14 June Guinness record is a run-up event — NOT International Day of Yoga itself, which is observed on 21 June. The record is for viewership of a single live stream, distinct from earlier mass-participation yoga records; 'Ayush' is the ministry/system grouping, not one therapy.
