6,000 youth gather for a 'Viksit Bharat' convention under MY Bharat
Sports Minister Mandaviya and Delhi CM Rekha Gupta addressed 6,000+ young people at a MY Bharat convention, pitching youth as the engine of a developed India by 2047.
What happened
- Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, addressed the 'Youth for Viksit Bharat: MY Bharat Youth Convention' at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex in Delhi.
- The convention brought together over 6,000 young participants from across the country — students, young professionals, women, entrepreneurs, content creators, innovators and emerging leaders.
- It showcased the role of youth in nation-building and India's journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047, anchored in the Viksit Bharat vision.
- The minister said the PM has envisioned a Viksit Bharat shaped by the ideas, innovation and aspirations of young Indians; the Delhi CM said youth would lead the nation through talent and hard work.
- Eminent figures — singer-MLA Maithili Thakur, actor Vikrant Massey, entrepreneur Aman Gupta and cricketer Jitesh Sharma — interacted with MY Bharat NSS volunteers.
- The convention showcased major youth-engagement initiatives undertaken across the country.
For Prelims
- What MY Bharat is: Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, launched on 31 October 2023 (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas), as a 'phygital' platform for youth development and engagement (mybharat.gov.in).
- Its purpose: to make youth active drivers of development rather than passive beneficiaries — connecting young people to government programmes, volunteering and skilling; it works alongside the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and NSS networks.
- Viksit Bharat @2047: the vision of a developed India by 2047 (centenary of independence); youth and the demographic dividend are positioned as its core engine — the framing of this convention.
- Demographic dividend: India's large working-age (youth) population is an opportunity that pays off only with education, skilling, health and jobs — the policy logic behind youth-engagement platforms.
- NSS: the National Service Scheme (Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports) is the student volunteering programme; 'MY Bharat NSS volunteers' shows the integration of existing volunteer networks.
- Ministry note: the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports runs MY Bharat, NYKS, NSS and the National Youth Policy — a clean institutions map.
- Caveat: conventions and platforms build engagement; converting the demographic dividend still depends on skilling and employment outcomes — keep the answer balanced.
- Link it: connect to the National Youth Policy, Skill India and the broader Viksit Bharat agenda in any youth/development answer.
For UPSC: A MY Bharat convention gathered 6,000+ youth under the 'Youth for Viksit Bharat' banner. Anchor MY Bharat (Mera Yuva Bharat): an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, launched 31 Oct 2023 as a phygital youth platform, positioning the demographic dividend as the engine of Viksit Bharat @2047 — but cash out the dividend only via skilling and jobs.
What it is NOT: MY Bharat is an autonomous youth-engagement platform/body — NOT a scholarship or cash scheme. And youth conventions build engagement; they are NOT by themselves proof of jobs created — the demographic dividend depends on skilling and employment.
For Mains
